WARNINGS: Drug references, probably also references to multiple criminal activities. I'll add anything particular if it comes up!

[Bold, behaving so sharply with Silco. But Jayce's veneer had been fracturing.]

[ Silco's lip curled into a slight, half-smile. There, and then it's gone, as fast as could be. ] Hm, well, you never know.

After all, last month, I was almost trampled by a headless rider. You can't expect me to be completely defenseless.

[ A beat. ]

Which is why I'm here. Obviously.

You couldn't just, I don't know, roll out of the way? [Do a barrel roll, Silco.] Right—sorry—insensitive. I wasn't worried about you defending yourself against monsters. Do I have to spell it out?

[ Oh, Silco can pick up what Jayce has put down, but he rolled his eyes, and spread his hands, defenseless. ]

You couldn't possibly think I'd be the type to lash out in violence for no reason do you?

[ Actually tho... ]

You don't consider me a danger to... polite Restless society, do you?

[ The blacksmith took two steps away from his table. Out of slashing distance. ]

No, of course not. You're a calculating risk to society, Restless or otherwise. [Eyes on the blacksmith rather than Silco, measuring his safety at arm's length.] If there's any place to keep a low profile, it's here. Where most people don't know your past, where you can start anew. [Didactic in tone, a man closer to half his age lecturing Silco.]

Why fall back into old patterns?

[ He said it, his tone tight. His fingers drug against another blade, felt at the metal, and the edge, idly. ]

Who's to say that I am? I hardly have an organization here, do I? No industry to promote...Why, it's as different as it could be, between our two cities, and here. [ The real similarity is that they are here, and Silco's lips are shut, because he does not want him to arrive to the knowledge that the most important person to Silco is here.

No, no, most certainly not. It's a careful calculation, that he felt at the blade, again, curious. ]

Oh, unless you mean the unkind words? [ He said, trying to drive the conversation in a direction he liked. ] I'm afraid that my dearest... "shadow" enjoys it when I run my mouth.

I've seen some discussion about that, [his attention was caught.] The shadows. Viktor hasn't had such a problem, and I—[a brief moment, when he's wondered if he said too much.]—Never mind.

[ Silco looked at Talis, curious. And he -- ?

Something had happened, hadn't it? He wondered what it could be? ]

Oh, it's not so exciting, I'm afraid. What's there to encourage? [ They both knew who Silco was, what kind of person he was. He didn't need to spell it out. But, just like someone else in Silco's life, it thought that honesty was the best policy.

Or perhaps, it knew there were plenty of secrets to be had, and that releasing them would lead to ruin. ]

It's loud-mouthed. I'm sure you, of all people, could understand why that could be problematic.
