This weapon looks as organic as its surroundings, but in a completely different way—rather than tendrils of plants and lovely crystal, Areadbhar looks as though it were forged from blood and bone, meat and sinew wasted away until only a weapon remained.
It even moves, very faintly. Like a little muscle twitch to say hello. ]
Ah!
[ He hurries over to fetch it, urgent. ]
It's mine... how could it be here?
[ Nevermind the playful (thieving) sprites hanging around. ]

but after a good few moments studying him, aspen exhales. no, dimitri is not playing stupid. no, dimitri is not lying and acting as if he was never here. that was all true - he can read no deception in his expression.
which means... )
I don't know. I haven't been here since we arrived. And, to be perfectly frank but without the intention of offense or rudeness - I would never touch a weapon like that.
( it makes his skin crawl. )
I don't see anyone else, though. Who could have brought it here? Those... pixies, flitting about? I heard they steal things, but I never would've thought they could steal something... ( he gestures to the weapon, uncertain. he has a tough time imagining a tiny pixie moving that thing. ) I don't even think I could lift that.

He makes to step out of the water with a sigh. ]
I didn't think they could even enter a place like this...
[ But they're capable of curses, so who knows what else they can do. Such as maybe spiriting away weapons taller than either of them. What a nuisance. ]
You aren't being rude—Areadbhar is a great and terrible thing. And I don't know what I would do without it. Thank you for sheltering it, inadvertent and unpleasant though it may be.
[ At least Dimitri is an easy read: his relief is sincere, as is his thanks, joined with a short bow of gratitude. ]

It's alright. The Boreas is similar, though perhaps not as... visually intimidating. ( when he readjusts his crystalline staff, it almost seems to glow in the palace's light - and it's more clear that the glowing sword that had been next to areadbhar is its twin. ) Instead, it will just burn the skin of anyone who touches it and is not found worthy. It belonged to my father.
( the fondness in his tone is made jarring by the moving dark figure nearing them, amidst the tangle of vines and shrubbery that's encroaching on the palace walls. aspen, with his back to the figure, can't see it. )
