He pushes his way through the ring of people who have turned to stare at the spectacle and then further on through the throng of merrymaking celebrants. Water, he assumes — and correctly, thank goodness — would be held in reserve to offer performers who actually did take the stage. He snatches up a glass of it from there and covers the open top firmly with a hand to keep most of it in as he makes his way back. When he does, he shoulders his way back through to Gilia and offers the same glass of water up to her.
