[ he's never been to a funeral before. in fact, the meaning of the scene is completely lost on him. he's also distracted by shalem--- in a good way, he thinks. it's better that leaks focuses on the other man and not the movie, even if they're supposed to be looking for something that'll indicate what kind of 'play' they're watching. ]

You deserve to know as much as you feel inclined.

[ because frankly, leaks is not a sore loser. he'll learn from his failures. ]

[in this moment, shalem knows that the movie is no longer their focus. they're acting like it's not even playing, that they're just sitting against each other for the sake of it.

[ actually, it's still somewhat uncomfortable to be this forward, but it's also the truth. he doesn't know all of shalem's struggles and though he'd like to say he could be a sufficient bulwark to what he's experienced and the fears that may come with them? it's only because he's weaponized those things. ]

[shalem freezes, the only voluntary movement he makes for several seconds the stupid, silent blinking up at leaks.

[ leaks' ears twitch as he looks into shalem's eyes with a hint of a smile. ]

Because we're both not like may of the others, hm? [a feline and a pythia-- shalem understands that, he's gotten used to the stares his tail gets on a daily basis.

shalem pauses the movie once more and sets his phone down on his thigh. no need for it anymore.]

I would not like to lose that either... It's nice, to see someone else with a nice tail after these months of seeing just plain skin. [rosa's tail is surely small and cute, but it's not proper to look at a lady's arse.]

[ leaks blinks a few times, feeling warmth in his cheeks, eyes following the phone down to shalem's lap. no more of that movie. they're better off with each other as company. even if what they found isn't right... it was still worth something in the end. ]

I can't feel your fur with my scales. [it's a little apologetic, and he shrugs.]

But it's warm, and a comfortable weight against mine. It may sound shallow, but that's enough for me.

[ he's quiet for a moment, not wanting to respond verbally. not yet, because it's true. a comfortable weight. that's what it is. something that doesn't put pressure on him. something that he'd probably miss if it was gone. ]

[shalem chuckles, and makes his tail waggle up and down, with leaks' fluff still wrapped up in it.]

[ no smiles, just a grunt and a huff. ]

Under duress? [perhaps leaks should not have said that, because shalem's smile has widened just a touch. still friendly, but now with a hint of mischief.]

[the end of his tail wriggles, keeping both of them mostly still, but surely leaks will still be able to feel that.]

[ he's embarrassed just thinking about smiling. feeling the corners of his lips rise just a little bit just because of someone else. ]

Come on. We should go, even if this is not what the man is looking for, I no longer care about the compensation...

No, no, wait!

[shalem smushes his cheek against leaks' shoulder in a bid to keep him in his seat. he's not letting go of leaks' tail either, he's too comfortable with holding it in his own.]

Our tails are doing quite a bit of the talking.

[ as much as he'd like to push up and away from the cheek, he's not of the mindset to do something that would be this rude. especially to shalem. ]

I believe there are words that would best describe the kind of conversation...

[ he just doesn't have them in his mind right now. ]

[is his tail sensitive, shalem has to wonder. are the tails of the furred races sensitive? to test, shalem slowly unwinds his tail from leaks', like the slithering of a serpent-beast.]

I can't think of a word, either, and I don't know what exactly you're thinking. [then he sits up properly, cricking his neck.]

But if you feel you're under duress, I'll have to just... pull it back some, hmm?

[ perhaps most cats have sensitive tails, but leaks would be more sensitive than others. not being around others... not having his own touched. so. in a way, he's not sure if he misses shalem's coiled his own right now. ]

... when we are out of this place, you may return your tail to where it was before.

[ leaks is trying not to melt into his seat. ]

Holding tails as we journey across the Tempest and the Shadowlands to our doors, hmm?

[shalem stuffs his phone into a pocket, and grabs leaks' wrist so they can finally get up and finish this mission.]

[ yes, he would like to completely melt and disappear now. ]

It is simply another way that we can keep track of one another. To not get lost. Keeping our hands free is the best way to defend ourselves.

You think up of things that people would not expect from you, and there's some hint of... sentimentality to them.

[ both of his ears go stiff, then immediately bend at the tips. ]

[shalem's tail wriggles as he tugs leaks up, up, stand with him.]
