If he were the type of man to blink, D would be blinking considerably. He looks at the apple, then he looks at Claude. Yeah, okay. The apple is the issue here. His eyes lower to the handkerchief. What's he supposed to do with this, Claude? Clean his boot?
He refuses it with a polite shake of his head.]
Did you get cursed from the mistletoe...?
no subject
In any case, Claude pockets the handkerchief and resists making a face at the taste of ash still in his mouth.
He doesn't entirely succeed, trying not to sound too sulky when he answers, ] So it would seem. I hardly even noticed that I was under it.
[ And now he has this apple that he doesn't know what to do with. ]
Have you encountered those little sprites too?
no subject
Yes. Doing anything but kissing under the mistletoe displeases them. They will heckle you if you refuse.
[He does not offer to take the apple from Claude (indirect kiss...) because he doesn't not really prefer to eat or drink. So Claude is left with his sins.]
no subject
He smiles. ]
So you've experienced it then. Had a series of memorable and heart racing kisses?
no subject
Nothing like that. Are you wanting one? A kiss. I don't know if it removes any established curses. I haven't tried.
no subject
You're not very shy, are you?
no subject
[Should he be shy talking to Claude about the pragmatics of kissing to sidestep an annoying curse...? Claude is a silly little man.]
no subject
[ Your roomie is so aggro, D. ]
no subject
I see. Perhaps he thought you were a scoundrel because you didn’t court him first.
no subject
[ Since D doesn't seem as bothered. Claude won't deny being a scoundrel anyway. He is the type to hit it (not Felix) and quit it. ]
no subject
[Felix may only think he is… which is fair actually. Claude is the worst scoundrel. He stole a couch from a dorm room.]
Felix seems the traditional man.
no subject
In some ways, I suppose. [ In others, he very much spits on tradition. ]
I'm glad for your flattering opinion of me, in any case. [ He tilts his head. ] And I hope you've been doing well, D. Seems like there's been quite a few terrible occurrences since we saw each last.
no subject
Claude gives him thanks and pats him some respect, and all D detours to is:]
Were you part of the ones who had been arrested?
no subject
[ He hadn't seen D around the building during that time, but then again he didn't often wander down to the basement. And he sort of assumed that D was some sort of creature of the night. ]
no subject
No. I was imprisoned with the others.
no subject
I'm sorry to hear that. [ He sounds genuine, brows furrowing. ] At least it seems to be an isolated occurrence, but it couldn't have been easy. You're not the type to play off your injuries, are you?
no subject
…
[It’s fine.]
I didn’t have any concerning injuries except for the brand they placed on our arms.
no subject
He looks at D closely. If D is wearing his hat, Claude is peering in right underneath it to get a good look at his expression. ]
Is that so? And you got that looked at?
[ Did he h/c with [redacted]? ]
no subject
He has the hat, yes. Claude can look under it. His expression is very 🗿, so good luck with that. He looks back.]
Yes. You don’t have to worry.
no subject
I was just curious. I'm glad you're all right then.
[ He holds out a hand. ]
Want to dance?
no subject
He looks at the hand, not taking it just yet.]
…Is this another curse?
[For clarification…]
no subject
[ It's not weird? ]
There are people dancing all around us, it's not that unusual.
[ I don't remember the setting for this thread, so I'm deciding that they're at one of the soirées, with food, music and mistletoe aplenty. ]
no subject
I can’t stand you.]
It’s unusual to ask me.
[LOOK at him. This is how he’s certain Claude is probably insane, or just has terrible tastes.
But he
puts his hand in Claude’s.]
no subject
Or maybe he just hasn't had much opportunity.
Whatever the case, Claude tosses the apple to the wind and leads D over to where a few others are dancing. As much as he would like to start moving around the dance floor to the beat of the music, he gets the sense that D might appreciate a... slower start. So he settles his free hand on his back and leads him into a quicker, sloppier waltz. ]
Do you not dance often?
no subject
He also frowns about how this is going. Is this punishment for my Chinatsu? Claude gets them only several steps into the clunky, fast waltz, and D stops so suddenly and solidly in place, he makes Claude stumble (but he doesn’t let go).]
I’m a vampire hunter, not a dancer.
[Fluidly, he switches their positions so he can lead. He starts again, this time more gracefully and more in tune with the music and everyone else.]
